History of Alanya
 
Alanya was founded in the second century BC by the pirate Diadotis “Tryphon” (the lecher). Under Pompeius the pirates nest was defeated and razed to the ground. Alanya Castle

Tower and dungeons. Present name of Alanya was given by Mustafa Kemal Ataturk in 1933. Hosted a number of society and cultures in the past, Alanya is a real heaven with its sights of ancient cities, ancient ruins, mosques, madrasahs and shipyard.
Kızıl Kule ( Red Tower )
 
It is constructed at a point where the shore walls join with the north walls. As stated by the inscription in the tower, the tower was constructed by the Architect Ebu Ali, commissioned by Alaaddin Keykubat in 1225 1227. Constructed in octagonal form. The tower is 29 meters in diameter and 33 meters in length. Although it has a humble appearance outside, the tower has actually a finely and delicately designed 5-storey structure inside, called “Arsenal”, the tower is 12 meters in height and constructed on robust rocks in shape of square. The cistern that provided drinking water for the guardians is still usable state. The rooms in the basement chambers have windows looking over the sea and land. Two-storey tower in the south of the shipyard had been used for defense against any assaults that may come from the land side.

Alanya has a typical Mediterranean climate with damp winters and hot dry summers, so plants from all over the world can be found here. Some of the most common are oranges, bananas, vegetables of all kinds and a variety of dates and coffees.
